The 'Sea Breeze' was a golf course, built for use by the staff and dependents of Wheelus Airbase, and was enjoyed by both men and women. The nine hole course, was a 20 minute drive from the East Gate and its ‘greens’ were known as ‘browns’ due to the putting surface being comprised of a brown dust, which had to be smoothed over after every putt, This was to erase the indentations made by the golf balls and clubs.

The club employed many locals to act as groundsmen and caddies, some of which later went on to become very accomplished players.

In 1970 and 1971, after the closure of Wheelus Airbase, Libya, was represented in the World Cup Golf Tournament, by Muftah Salem, who was once a caddy at Sea Breeze, and who later went on to become a pro at the Tripoli Golf Club.

Hadi Sassi, 23, who played for Libya in the 1968 Eisenhower Cup in Australia, was the Amateur Champion of Libya in 1971. Abdullah Zakhouzi; Milad Gamoudi, and Abdul Saddeq, were all other members of the Eisenhower Cup team, and like Sassi, were all former caddies from Wheelus 1.
